Why does Junior cry on pages 216 and 217? (Aaron)
Junior is having a picnic with his parents at his sister's grave to celebrate her life. His parents are expressing love, and joking with Junior when they start telling them they love each other. Junior suddenly bursts in to tears. " It all made me cry for my sister. It made me cry for myself"(Alexie 216). What Junior means by this is he finally accepts his sister's death. He is going through the final stage of grief. He then felt that her death wasn't his fault and discovered that leaving the reservation was a very courageous act that he did to save himself. He left to pursue whatever his dream is, and to stay away from the hopeless drunks that make up his neighborhood. "I cried because so many of my fellow tribal members were slowly killing themselves and I wanted them to live"(Alexie 216). Another reason Junior is crying is because his sister went the exact same way most of his dead friends went. All of his neighbors drink themselves to death, but Junior will stay strong. There is faith that Junior will be the one reservation indian that will find hope and live a full and happy life.

I agree that Junior is no longer grieving about his sisters death. "We Indians know how to celebrate our dead." (Alexie 215). This quote shows that Junior and his family are no longer grieving about his sisters death, and that in fact they are celebratiing it. Also, the quote "And I felt okay." (Alexie 215) shows that Junior himself has moved on from his sisters death. But I would like to add that Junior is crying because other people on the rez are slowly killing themselves with alchohal abuse. "I cried because so many of my fellow tribal members were slowly killing themselves and I wanted them to live." (Alexie 216). In summery Junior was crying for his tribe, the members of his family that he has lost, and mostly his sister.
